5.7.3. Replacement of the fuel pump/gauge of a fuel tank

The fuel pump together with the tank gauge is in a fuel tank and is designated by firm Volkswagen, proceeding from a design, as a rule, as system of giving of fuel.

The gauge consists of a float and a potentiometer. At fall of level of fuel the gauge float falls and the potentiometer connected with a float increases electric resistance of the gauge. Thereof pressure on the index of the expense of the fuel, located on the panel of devices falls, — the arrow moves in a direction to a designation "Empty".

The prevention The fuel pump and the gauge of a fuel tank is better to dismantle in the open air. Fuel steams are poisonous and inflammable, therefore necessary safety measures are an indispensable condition for carrying out of such work.

At dismantle of the fuel pump it is necessary to execute the following:

- To disconnect the storage battery;

Preventions At a detachment of the storage battery the information from memory of electronic devices is erased, therefore check up, whether there is at you an autoradio tape recorder code. The storage battery is necessary for disconnecting only at the switched off ignition.

- To dismantle a cover located on the bottom of a luggage carrier;

- To disconnect a socket of the gauge of a tank and the fuel pump. For this purpose slightly to raise by means of a small screw-driver keeping ledges located on each side;

- After easing of collars of fastening of hoses to dismantle submitting and returnable fuel hoses. Places of connections are shown on fig. 121, knot details топливоподачи — on fig. 122. To close apertures of hoses;
