14. Brake system
In forward wheels disk brakes, in back wheels — self-regulated drum-type brakes are established. It is necessary to consider some design features of brakes of cars Polo:
- In cars with antiblocking system ABS instead of disk brakes on a back axis drum-type brakes are established;
- Till January, 1995 cars equipped with disk brakes of type VW MK.I. Together with them established not ventilated brake disks in diameter of 239 mm, thickness of 10 mm. Forward disk brakes have been changed in January, 1995 Since this time cars equip with brakes of type VW MK.II and ventilated brake disks. Diameter of disks remained the same, and their thickness has increased to 18 mm;
- Despite existing distinctions of disk brake mechanisms, at removal and installation of details, for example brake колодок, supports etc., distinctions practically are not present;
- The details concerning system ABS, are considered separately in the end of this section. In the rest the design of forward and back brakes corresponds to the details established without ABS.
The brake system is executed with a two-planimetric drive: each contour of the main brake cylinder carries out braking of corresponding two wheels at diagonal division of contours.
The amplifier of brakes enters into serial execution of brake system. Some models are equipped by a pressure regulator.
